Mrs. Deets

Welcome!

My name is Mrs. Deets and I am one of 5 special education teachers who work with our group of 6th graders.  My focus this year is on math and I co-teach with Mrs. McClain and Mrs. Cole.  Mrs. Burki and Mrs. Steed are 2 of my colleagues who also solely work with the 6th-grade group.  Mrs. Burki co-teaches in an ELA classroom and teaches a small ELA class.  Mrs. Steed co-teaches a math class and teaches a small pull out math class as well.  In ELA we have help from Mrs. Dwyer and Mrs. Counes who co-teaching in ELA too.  This means that your child will be working with multiple special education teachers.  Please note that our names will not show up on your child’s schedule if the class is co-taught.  Co-taught classes provide special education support and dual teaching within the general education setting, so you will see the name of the general education teacher on your student’s schedule.

As the school year begins I will share information about your child’s learning levels and accommodations with staff who work directly with your child.  Based on individual needs stated in the IEP, I may be working with your child in the general education setting while co-teaching.  General education staff and I will work together to adapt any instructional methods, assignments, test formats, or grading as stated in the IEP.  Your child has been assigned a guided practice (GP) with me.  This time may be used to work on study skills and organization, reteaching concepts, addressing social still strategies, and completing assignments with the support I also will be the person coordinating your child’s annual IEP conference. I am looking forward to meeting and work with you and your child.

One key to success is open communication between home and school.  I would like to share my communication information again with you.  My school email address is deetsl@fortschools.org.  The school phone number is 920-563-7833 and my extension is 7101.  Please feel free to call or email any questions or concerns you may have during the year.  I would be happy to arrange a talk and meet with you either over the phone or by Zoom.  Sixth grade is a big year of growth and adjustment within a typical school year.  This year will be exceptional.  I am confident that working together we can provide a strong support system with consistent expectations.

A little about me.  I joined the FAMS staff back in 2016 and have been a 6th-grade Special Education teacher ever since.  This will be my 7th year in the district.  The 2020-2021 school year will be my 23rd year of teaching.

I am married to Mr. Deets who is also a special education teacher in the Palmyra/Eagle School District and we live in Waukesha.  We have two beautiful boys named Braeden and Keaten.  Braeden is studying at UW-Platteville with a double major in Psychology and Spanish with intentions of being a police officer.  Keaten has just started his first year at UW-Eau Claire focusing on Political Science at this time.  We all see him working in politics in some way eventually.  Our family also includes our 7-year-old Goldendoodle Lambeau and our 4-year-old Goldendoodle Luna.  I am a big crafter, a huge Packer fan, and smile every time a see a Minion.

I look forward to an exciting year of learning with your child and working with you as parents/guardians.  MANY THANKS in advance for your patience and support of education and your child.
