BOARD POLICY 446
446 - Searches and Seizures
A teacher or administrator may conduct a search of a student’s person or personal items (e.g., purse, backpack, duffel bag or similar items) if the search is based on reasonable suspicion, that is a result of personal observation or reliable information from a third party, that the student has a dangerous or illegal item or substance in his/her possession. In deciding whether a search is appropriate, a certified employee will consider the information available and the circumstances of the situation.
Strip searches of students shall not be conducted by any School District employee. If a situation requires a strip search, the police shall be contacted.
