BOARD POLICY 346
346 - Testing Program
Educational evaluation shall serve three functions in the School District of Fort Atkinson: (1) a diagnostic function to enable staff to determine the unmet needs of students; (2) an achievement function to measure the degree to which students have accomplished established learning objectives; and (3) an instructional program assessment function to determine if there are weaknesses in the instructional program in order to improve it.
The District shall develop and use a testing program which relies on standardized instruments, District-developed instruments, and professional staff appraisals of student achievement in terms of individual, local, and national norms, and in comparison with past achievement levels of the District. The District’s testing program shall include all tests required by state law and/or regulations.
Decisions regarding the inclusion or test modifications for exceptional education need, Section 504, or limited English proficiency students shall be made on an individual basis in accordance with established procedures.
Test scores on nationally norm-referenced and state mandated tests shall be reported to the Board on an annual basis. The Board may request reports on District-developed instruments as desired.
The School District shall not discriminate in the methods, practices and materials used for testing and evaluating students on any basis protected by federal, state, or local laws.
